Programme Services

SAS bases its interventions on the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). I believe a combination of Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Pivotal Response Training (PRT) to be most beneficial for the majority of children. In addition, the enhancement of social skills goals, increased motivation, and addressing sensory needs can be integral components of the child’s programme.

In addition, taking a positive and functional approach to challenging behaviours, the use of visual supports, and teaching within typical family routines will serve to complete my approach.

Skills to be targeted may include:

  • Play skills
  • Social skills
  • Communication skills
  • Self-help skills
  • Academic skills
  • Aberrant or challenging behaviour(s)
  • Sensory needs

Screening and Assistance with Assessment and Diagnosis

SAS may perform screening procedures to those children who are suspected of being on the autistic spectrum. It is also possible for me to assist professionals in the assessment and diagnosis of autism or autism spectrum disorders.

In-home Programme Design and Development

The intervention programme is normally conducted at the child’s home at an agreed upon time. It is also possible to incorporate Individual Education Plans (IEP) and/or school goals within the child’s in-home programme. Play goals are also targeted through a number of different modalities, such as sibling and parent training and peer education. Include something about sensory needs.

SAS’s early intervention in-home model focuses on building functional skills in the areas of communication, social, and play skills. These core problem areas are critical targets for early intervention and future development for children with autism. A combination of interventions will be used in order to meet the needs of each individual child.

Tutor Training

A comprehensive training programme is available for tutors employed by individual families. This is usually done after the family has hired the appropriate number of tutors for their child’s in-home programme.

Parent Education

Parents are an integral part of their child’s programme and are encouraged to participate in the tutor training sessions. Alternatively, if you prefer you may request individual training separate from the group training session for the tutors.

Sibling Training

Training for the child’s siblings is also available. This could greatly improve the generalization of skills learned throughout the child’s programme.

Direct Intervention

I am available for direct intervention with your child, although it can be more cost effective if the family hires their own tutors.

Training for Medical Professionals

Consultation with medical professionals is available so that the medical appointment may become easier for both the professional and the child.

In addition, training and consultation is available for individuals or groups of professionals who would like to increase their knowledge and understanding of children with autism.
